Stradbroke beckons Bam’s On Fire

Universal Ruler mare Bam’s On Fire will be given another crack at a Group 1 after being placed in the G1 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville last Saturday.

The Ciaron Maher – David Eustace trained sprinter was doing her best work at the end of 1200m in Adelaide and will appreciate an extra furlong in the G1 Stradbroke Hcp (1400m) next month.

Bam’s On Fire and her stablemate All Too Royal were both paid up when first nominations were taken on Monday for the $350,000 Stradbroke Hcp at Eagle Farm on June 6.  She also holds a Group 1 entry for the Goodwood Hcp at Morphettville on May 16.

“She’s pulled up well after Saturday,” stable manager Reece Murphy said.  “The boys decided on a trip north depending on the travel protocols into Queensland.”

Jockey Jake Toeroek reported he was unable to take advantage of an inside barrier after being inconvenienced at the start of the Sangster.  “It was my intention to settle more forward,” he told stewards.  “But as a consequence of the interference, I was unable to maintain our position.”

Bam’s On Fire was beaten two lengths into third place by Bella Vella after coming from 12th of the 16 runners at the half-mile.

Formerly based in Perth, she is one of 9 stakes winners by Scenic Lodge sire Universal Ruler having made a black-type breakthrough in the G3 Victoria Hcp (1400m) at Caulfield on Easter Saturday.

Universal Ruler sired his latest maiden winner on Sunday when Sweet Ruler scored on debut at Bunbury.  He was bred by Chris & Andrea Gales at Gervase Park and is the third winner for Sweet Lorraine (Encosta de Lago).

Scenic Lodge will stand Universal Ruler for a $6,600 (inc GST) service fee this year.
