Sky’s the limit for Blackwood
The sky’s the limit for Blackwood after the Fred Kersley trained filly stretched her unbeaten run at Belmont on Saturday.
Blackwood is a homebred for Oakland Park owner Neville Duncan and the Blackfriars filly has now won four in a row since April. Saturday’s 4 length victory in the Westspeed Plate (1600m) followed a 7 length runaway a fortnight ago.
“She’s clearly she’s an exceptional filly,” Kersley said. “I don’t know what the bottom is but at this stage I couldn’t ask for anything more and she will likely head for a spell.”
Blackwood (2f Blackfriars – Karriwood by Tobougg) will return next season for the G3 Champion Fillies Stakes at Ascot on November 15. Her connections also have the alternative of taking on the colts for double the prizemoney in the $400,000 G2 WA Guineas on November 22.
Saturday’s result increased her earnings to $222,100 including Westspeed bonuses of $92,500.
Blackfriars has broken through $4 million in prizemoney on the Australian sires’ premiership this season and he’s on track to better his best ever mark of $4.29 million set in 2011-12.
Scenic Lodge will stand Blackfriars for a $12,000 (plus gst) service fee this year.
